Gers coach Beale in 5 match ban

- BY GAVIN BERRY

MICHAEL BEALE has been hammered with a five-game ban for his Old Firm sending-off melee. But Rangers must wait to learn their fate over a double SFA charge after their Hampden hearing last night was adjourned.

Light Blues firstteam coach Beale, left, was dismissed by ref Kevin Clancy following Alfredo Morelos’ red card during the final minutes of the 2-1 Old Firm derby win at Parkhead. Beale then squared up to Celtic No.2

John Kennedy before being led away by Ibrox officials.

Beale’s conduct forms part of the wider charge which is also understood to include Ryan Kent’s goal celebration and Morelos’ cut-throat gesture, although the pair escaped individual sanctions.

Gers were in the dock over incidents in the December derby victory at Parkhead and against Hibs at Easter Road nine days earlier.

They were accused of breaching Disciplinary Rule 204 which states that “all clubs and recognised football bodies shall procure that its officials, team staff, employees and players conduct themselves in an orderly fashion at all times during and/or after a match.”

Gers said they were “astounded” at the charges in a statement last month.

And their fight will continue when they return to Hampden – with the club facing fines ranging from £2,500 to £20,000 for each offence – after their lengthy meeting was postponed.

Beale copped a hefty five-mach ban, with two suspended until the end of he season, meaning he will be missing from the dugout for tomorrow’s Scottish Cup clash with Hamilton.

Gers’ other charge relates to the 3-0 win over Hibs at Easter Road earlier in the month when there was a touchline fracas.

Light Blues coach Tom Culshaw will serve a one-match ban for his part in that, with a further one match suspended.
