DECLAN: NO THREE IN A WOE FOR ME

QOS v DUNDEE

- NEIL ROBERTSON

DUNDEE’S Declan McDaid is determined it’ll be third time lucky after a double dose of play-off pain.

The 24-year-old missed out on the chance of promotion last season from the Championship with Ayr as they lost over two legs to Inverness.

There was earlier heartache for the winger in 2016 when he was on loan at Cowdenbeath from Partick Thistle, with the Blue Brazil relegated to League Two after another tense, end-ofseason two-leg showdown with Queen’s Park.

Now McDaid knows his Dark Blues will have to successfully negotiate the play-off minefield to go up to the Premiership.

He said: “I have a lot of experience in the playoffs. I like the structure of them.

“It is quite good but obviously you want to finish second in the league so you have less games.

“Hopefully this will be third time lucky for me.”

Dundee are looking to extend their unbeaten run to three games at Queen of the South today.

McDaid said: “I have been saying to the lads all the time that if you go on a run of three or four games then you are right back in the play-off mix.

“A lot of teams have sat in against us this year as they know we have quality going forward.

“But everyone is now going for it as they need the points so hopefully it will open up more which might help us.”

Queens’ midfielder Iain Wilson doesn’t think a win over Dundee will spark a surge up the table.

The Doonhamers are down in eighth and onloan Kilmarnock star Wilson said: “I am not going to claim we’re going to do this or do that.

“We have to simply take things one game at a time. We need to start picking up points and doing that against Dundee would be perfect.

“They have probably underperformed this season and will be looking to beat us.”
