● February 18, 2020 Jurors begin their deliberations in Weinstein’s trial. ● Weinstein is found guilty of a criminal sex act for assaulting television production assistant Miriam against Weinstein, an Oscarwinning producer of films including Shakespeare in Love, had opened the floodgates, as hundreds of thousands of women aired their own stories of harassment.
He quickly became a symbol not just of the casting couch culture in Hollywood but of the abuse women had endured for decades.
The charges against him rested on the accusations of
Haleyi at his apartment in 2006 and third-degree rape of Jessica Mann in 2013.
The jury found him not guilty on the most serious charge, predatory sexual assault, which could have resulted in him receiving a life sentence.
Haleyi, a former television production assistant who testified he forced oral sex on her at his Manhattan apartment in 2006, and Mann, a former aspiring actress, who says he raped her in a Manhattan hotel room in 2013.
Both acknowledged they continued to see Weinstein after the alleged assaults and later had consensual sex with him, complicating the prosecution’s case.
The jury of seven men and five women heard graphic details about the abuse he inflicted on them.
The court also heard how Weinstein sent one witness – actress Annabella Sciorra – a “care package” of a bottle of Valium and chocolate penises.
Italian actress Emanuela
Postacchini, 32, alleged he “manipulated” her and Mann into a failed threesome at a Los Angeles hotel in 2013.
His former assistant Rowena Chiu claimed he tried to rape her.
MPs here called for his CBE to be scrapped. Labour’s Dawn Butler said: “The Government needs to act, fast.”
Weinstein faces a further 28 years in prison in Los Angeles if found guilty there on other sex crime charges.
Actress Ashley Judd, who accused Weinstein of harassment, credited the victims.
She tweeted: “For the women who testified in this case, and walked through traumatic hell, you did a public service to girls and women everywhere. Thank you.”
