The femme finale

-

DIEHARD fans of RuPaul’s Drag Race will probably have already binge-watched this series on iPlayer but the grand finale is right here tonight on BBC1.

There are three drag queens left in the UK version of this colourful contest that has become a global phenomenon.

Divina De Campo, The Vivienne and Baga Chipz must battle it out to win an all-expensespaid trip to Hollywood to star in their own digital series.

This show won’t be for everyone, with its high levels of smut and end-of-pier gags – but fans find the nails-out rivalry, feistiness, costumes and American dose of “realness” entertaining.

In this double bill, each queen sits down for a podcast session with Ru and fellow judge Michelle Visage. They get real as Baga opens up about his upbringing and relationship with his mum, Divina discusses his work ethic, and The Vivienne talks about his past struggles with the party drug ketamine.

But back to the song-and-dance, the queens must record their own verse as they perform RuPaul’s song Rock It (To The Moon).

Then they must learn some demanding choreography from Strictly’s AJ Pritchard and his brother Curtis. It’s a session that leaves AJ reeling in frustration.

Finally, with one queen eliminated by judges Ru, Michelle, Graham Norton and Alan Carr, the remaining two must lip sync to a Wham! song.

After the winner is announced in the big Ru-veal, the raucous Drag Race family from the series reunite and reflect, before the show sashays away in style.
