OK so it’s not the biggest cup final but it’s still a big chance to win something..I’m so happy justice has been done

to sign a new two-year deal at Hibs, which was at a stage in my life where I had no buzz about football.

“I thought to myself, ‘Move on, get a fresh start’, whereas I look back now and that’s probably the happiest two years and most successful years I spent at such a great club, with great people around about me.

“But that’s the past. These things happen in football. You make decisions and I’m here now – and absolutely loving it. What I aim to do is just keep enjoying my football at Inverness and keep enjoying my life.”

John Robertson, now in his second spell in charge at Inverness, is adamant the Scottish Cup glory days shouldn’t be considered a thing of the past.

Steve Paterson masterminded the famous February 2000 triumph at Celtic Park that sent shockwaves all through football. John Hughes, honing the team Terry Butcher built, took them all the way to the 2015 final where they lifted the trophy by beating Falkirk.

In between those great feats Robertson, in his first stint in charge, took them to two Hampden semi-finals in 2003 and 2004 against Dundee and Dunfermline.

Then last year he was back there against Hearts, again falling at the penultimate hurdle. To get there again they must beat Hibs but Robertson is in it to win it. The boss said: “The club has a proud record in the Scottish Cup.

“We’ve won it in our recent history. You want to keep going as far as you can in it and try to win it. We have got through the rounds with tough opposition in front of us and we’ve got an even tougher game now.

“Hibs are a good side who play good football. They have got a threat but we feel we’ve got a threat as well. We want to go to Easter Road and give ourselves the best opportunity of going through.

“It means everything to the club but semi-finals aren’t good enough. We’ve been to a final and we want to get to a final again. John Hughes has set the standard which all our Scottish Cup runs are judged by now.

“Steve Paterson started it all off with the famous result against Celtic and John took it all the way. We’ve got a great cup tradition and we’ve got to take that confidence to Easter Road, play with no fear and play to our strengths.”
