McNulty jokes: We’ll fight it out, Rocky-style

-

BY ROSS PILCHER all the time, even if you’ve missed, like I missed my last one. It doesn’t matter to me, I could miss two or three and I would still want to take them.

“As a striker you always need to be confident and feel you are going to go up and put it away.

“The decision was made that Paul would take them and he apparently has a good record of taking penalties but he missed.

“I didn’t want that to happen but he has and I suppose now we can go back to the drawing board and we will see who takes the next one.

“I never knew Paul had been told he was to take the penalty so I grabbed it and wanted to take it. “I didn’t want to make too much of a scene after he said he’d been told to take it. If the management have told someone they’re on the penalties, there’s not much you can do about it. “He’s a defender and that was my argument too – and he missed so we will just have to fight it out now, Rocky style or something like that. Everyone will need to take a penalty on Monday and we’ll see what happens. “When we get the next penalty I would be confident of scoring it and I’ll want to take it but I’m sure a few of the boys will be in that same boat.” Penalties aside, McNulty is buzzing to get to a first Hampden semi-final. The former Coventry striker has experienced promotion joy at Wembley but he admitted running out at his own national stadium will mean more.

He added: “I can’t wait. It is something I have not been involved in but it will be good. Being local, and knowing lots of fans over the years, they will be buzzing about getting a trip to Hampden.

“It is a good day out for everyone and it’s the same for the players. It doesn’t happen very often in your career so it’s a day to look forward to.

“Wembley was great but it would be extra special to play at Hampden, especially with Hibs.”

First there’s the small matter of tomorrow’s Edinburgh derby for McNulty to concern himself with.

He added: “I’m sure they’ll come here believing they can get something.

“But the run we’ve been on we are confident, especially as we’re at home, that we can get all three points.”
