SKIPPER’S BIG LETDOWN
BY MARK McDOUGALL IT’S been a testing time for Steven Gerrard on the pitch in 2020.
Star striker Alfredo Morelos is causing him issues and with Florian Kamberi cup-tied and Jermain Defoe only fit enough for the bench, it left the Gers boss short up front and Greg Stewart was handed a start.
It didn’t go well and the Ibrox side struggled to create anything and were beaten 1-0 by Hearts.
The big suggestion is Gerrard’s European record is saving him and he’s not improved the Ibrox side.
A dismal run of form since Christmas leaves Rangers 12 points behind their rivals Celtic with a game in hand, compared to this time last year when they were eight points behind having played a game more.
A stat of win percentages circulated on social media last week but was wrong on all fronts, incorrectly stating Gerrard had a worse record than the previous three managers – Graeme Murty, Pedro Caixinha and Mark Warburton.
Record Sport crunched the numbers and show Gerrard has in fact got a better record on the domestic front than all three.
