Telfer: I’ll stay on it to get us top

-

CHARLIE TELFER is ready to pay back his Falkirk team-mates tomorrow night to help fire the Bairns to the top – and keep them there.

The former Rangers and Dundee United midfielder was sent off early on last time Falkirk faced Raith but dug deep to draw 1-1 draw even after Morgaro Gomis saw red too.

Telfer knows the Bairns escaped on Saturday losing to gutsy Clyde as Rovers also crashed at Dumbarton and they must take advantage.

He said: “Hopefully if selected I’ll last longer than 14 minutes. It was a bit of silliness from me.

“If we win we can go above them at the top and feel when we get there we’ll have what it takes to stay.

“But we need to be ruthless in both boxes which we weren’t on Saturday. We got away with one when we heard the Raith result.”

David Goodwillie was the Clyde hero as the Bully Wee ended a five-game losing streak to pull four points clear of secondbottom Forfar.

Mark Lamont scored first after a Paul Dixon blunder before Goodwillie hit a Panenka penalty after Robbie Mutch had cleaned him out.

Telfer netted from the spot just before half-time but against Falkirk pressure Goodwillie struck again. Louis Longridge got a late counter for 3-2.

Clyde keeper David Mitchell was outstanding against his old club but he said: “The win was more important than my performance. Earlier in the season we were looking up the way but now it’s about

Dumbarton stung Raith for a second time this term with a 1-0 home win.

Skipper Stuart Carswell drilled through a forest of legs in injury time after a corner had been headed out to the edge of the box.

Airdrie also failed to take any advantage losing 1-0 at Montrose. Diamonds keeper Scott Gallacher fumbled a cross and pulled down Cammy Ballantyne as he tried to retrieve it and Graham Webster slotted home the penalty.

Danny Denholm secured East Fife’s 1-0 win against Forfar in the opening minute when he turned in a corner from Ryan Wallace.
