Kris: I was breathless before goal

-

KRIS RENTON admits he could easily have not been on the pitch to earn Cowdenbeath a point – because his own goalie had left him breathless.

The striker clattered into team-mate Joshua Rae midway through the first half of their clash with Edinburgh and was helped off the pitch for treatment.

But he returned to tap in at the back post only for Marc Laird to make it 1-1.

Renton said: “It was an accidental clash but it left me struggling to breathe.

“When the gaffer asked if I could play on I said, ‘Of course’. I’m a bit bruised and at first I thought I’d cracked a rib but I’ll be okay.

“It was an eventful game because I hit the bar with a header, got injured, scored and got booked as well!”

Renton prodded home David Cox’s cross seven minutes from half-time for his second goal this term.

But with 10 minutes left Laird lashed a shot from the right corner of the box that sailed over Rae with help from the wind and dropped under the bar.

On his goal, Renton said: “It was just my distance – a couple of yards out! But it was actually a good team goal. There was a good ball up to me then I switched it to David who did brilliantly to get to the line and cross.

“I thought he would have a go himself. But he put it right across for me and I’m delighted I’ve got a goal. As for their equaliser, it’s fair to say he’s not meant to do what he’s done.

“But it was a good finish. We seem to have to work hard to score then goals like that go against us.”

While Cowden slipped out of the play-offs, City are 10 points off leaders

Cove who beat Stenny 3-0 thanks to a Mitch Megginson double. City boss James McDonaugh said: “We were quite dominant in territory and possession.

“We’re disappointed to come from behind and only get a point.”

Rabin Omar and Kane Hester struck either side of a Daniel Scally leveller as Elgin beat Albion Rovers 2-1 with all three goals in the first six minutes.

Queen’s Park are third as Ross MacLean and Salim Kouider-Aissa’s penalty made it 2-0 against Annan.

And James Creaney hit the first senior goal of his 15-year career in Stirling’s 2-0 win at Brechin.
