Chabbi: I’ll net points for Buddies
CHABBI is confident he can help fire St Mirren to Premiership safety despite his debut ending with a Scottish Cup exit.
The deadline-day loan signing from Turkish club Gaziantep came off the bench with 20 minutes to go against Aberdeen.
Now the Austrian has called for his team-mates to put the pain behind them and focus all their energy in climbing away from the drop zone starting against St Johnstone on Wednesday.
Chabbi, who has struck 30 goals in the last three years for Gaziantep and his former club SV Ried in Austria, said: “It wasn’t the result we wanted. It was a really big opportunity for the whole club.
“But in Austria we say our ‘daily bread’ is the league season. Now we have a big game again and we have to concentrate on our league season.
“It’s not like Aberdeen were a class better than us. When you go 1-0 behind though it’s not easy.
“We’ve had better days but we have to continue.
“We had enough time to turn it around when we went 1-0 down. We couldn’t do it in the end.
“This game will be in our heads today but tomorrow we will start our focus on Wednesday’s game. We’ll give everything to get three points.”
Chabbi has had to be patient for his Buddies debut but the 26-year-old said: “I came here and I’ve been training. It’s normal that players need time.
“Now I’m looking forward because I want to play as much as possible.
“I’ll give everything in training to show the coach that I can play in the first 11.
“I’m a striker and I always have good statistics for goals.
“But in the end it’s more important for the team to win their three points.”
