DON’T DROP BY TOLEAGUEONE

-

JAMES PENRICE has one relegation on his CV and admits he can’t afford another.

The Partick Thistle defender – a fledgling member of the Jags side who tumbled out of the Premiership two years ago – is desperate to avoid dropping another division.

Penrice, 21, is convinced tonight’s massive Maryhill clash with Queen of the South can be the launch pad from which Ian McCall’s side rescue their Championship campaign.

He said: “It’s massive that relegation doesn’t happen. This club is too big to be in League One.

“The players we have in the dressing room are good enough to go and challenge for the league. I honestly believe that.

“But our quality has not really been there all season. The Queens game is a six-pointer and we can’t afford to lose it.

“We only have ourselves to blame and we can’t complain about our position. It’s massive that we get the three points.”

Queen of the South striker Jack Hamilton admits walking off the Palmerston pitch having been thumped 4-0 by Morton was the worst feeling of his career.

The 19-year-old confesses Queens owe their fans more than just a single result for their suffering, although Maryhill would be as good a place as any to start.

Defeat tonight could see them tumble to the bottom of the table and Hamilton said: “It is a test of the boys’ character as well – to see if we step up to the plate.

“We need to be much better than we were on Saturday.

“Definitely we owe the fans, more than just a result I would say, because it has not been very good for us the last couple of weeks. We just need to work our hardest and get the result.”
