We’ll be flamingos amongst pigeons

Doyle wants Falkirk to fly high

-

NEVER mind Rino Gattuso telling his Napoli stars last weekend to be “as handsome as Brad Pitt” on the ball and “as ugly as me” off it.

Michael Doyle has coined the Scottish equivalent, urging Falkirk to be “the flamingos amongst pigeons” to pip Raith and Co to the title.

It’s top v second with a point separating leaders Rovers and the Bairns after weekend losses.

Doyle had club TV viewers doing a double-take earlier this season when he dubbed Falkirk at full throttle as “flamingos amongst the pigeons”.

And the right-back reckons it’s a mantra the Bairns must live by in their final 10 games.

Doyle said: “My old man gave me that one – he’s always good for a quote. It stuck with me.

“We were doing the calendar for this year at the start of the season and I turned up with a big inflatable flamingo.

“I’m Mr August. It was with an estate agency and they were thinking, ‘What is this guy doing?’ If you don’t explain it you’re just a guy walking about with a big flamingo.

“If we want to win this league we need to be the flamingos amongst the pigeons – we need to stand out and put our authority on games.”

Rovers striker John Baird, 34, says the talented youngsters around him in the Stark’s Park dressing room can prosper if they keep up the consistency.

He said: “Ayr were in this position two years ago with a guy like Lawrence Shankland.

“They win the league, he goes into the Championship, he’s flying, gets another move, now he’s a Scotland international. Who’s to say any of these young boys can’t do that with us.”
