Former nursery teacher abused kid as a teenager

-

A PERVERT who preyed on a youngster by simulating breastfeeding has been placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register.

Former nursery teacher Wendy McGill, now 48, admitted sexually abusing her victim, who was aged between four and six.

The accused was a teenager at the time.

McGill said she was the “mummy” and pretended to breastfeed the child while instructing her victim to touch

her.

Paisley Sheriff Court

BY RON MOORE heard the historical sexual abuse took place when McGill was about 15.

The incidents took place at her home in Renfrew in the 80s.

Prosecutors narrowed it down to between 1986 and 1989, when the kid, who can’t be identified for legal reasons, was at primary school.

McGill appeared for sentencing after pleading guilty to committing a sexual offence against the youngster.

Paul Kavanagh, defending, said: “She pleaded guilty to this offence last year and, for a variety of reasons, the case did not call until last month. This matter is of some age. What can be said is the matter involved a child and she, at that time, was also a child.

“No further offences have happened since that date and there is nothing outstanding in respect of my client.”

He told how McGill has been shunned by her friends and family since the offence came to light and has lost her job.

McGill made the youngster touch her breast and the child “realised that the accused was enjoying the game”.

The carer also made the child perform sex acts on her and told her to keep what had happened “a secret”.

The victim kept the abuse to herself for three decades before eventually telling someone who knew McGill.

Sheriff James Spy told her: “This was a serious offence which took place some time ago. It involved a child when you yourself were also a child.

“Taking into account what Mr Kavanagh has said on your behalf, and having read background reports, it seems to me in these circumstances, the court should make a probation order lasting three years.”

He also ordered her to attend the Pathways Project, which works with sex offenders, for the same period and placed her on the Sex Offenders’ Register, also for three years.
