Encourage your kids to pass on their old toys

- KATIE Morag star Cherry Campbell is leading the Great Toy Rescue to encourage Scots to pass on unwanted toys.

More than 60% of parents say their kids have too many toys but less than a quarter always pass on or donate unwanted playthings.

The Great Toy Rescue, launched today by Zero Waste Scotland, is encouraging Scots to swap, donate, share and repair toys.

Having a clear out of unwanted toys and passing them on will conserve precious resources, reduce carbon emissions and cut waste.

Four fifths of Scotland’s carbon footprint is caused by the goods and materials that we consume, this includes the heat and energy required to grow, make, process, transport and provide them.

Whether it is food, clothes, toys or electrical equipment, reusing materials will reduce the level of carbon emissions.

Cherry Campbell, 14, best known as Katie Morag in the TV adaptation of the children’s books, is backing the campaign.

“It’s good to think you are helping to reduce the amount of waste building up around the world. It’s also nice to know you have a toy that has been passed down and enjoyed from someone in your family or a friend,” she said.

“We can all help to reduce the amount of waste ending up in the oceans and on land.”

Cherry visited Jordanhill School, where she was once a
