WE’RE PLUGGED IN TO THE MAINS

Joe: Curtis is Dons’ livewire

JOE LEWIS reckons Aberdeen striker Curtis Main has regained his Motherwell menace.

And with the positivity of Matty Kennedy bringing another vibrant edge to the Dons’ attack, the keeper is adamant his team have more firepower than just the guns of Sam Cosgrove.

Top scorer Cosgrove is expected to return to the side after a back spasm kept him out of the midweek draw at Killie.

But Lewis has no major concerns about Main filling the void again. He said: “Curtis has been different class for us.

“He hasn’t got the goals in the last couple of games but he has led that line brilliantly.

“It’s the player I remember playing against us when he was at Motherwell. I didn’t look forward to facing him then and I know the centre-halves didn’t either. He really does give the opposition a real

handful.

“He’s been brilliant and we have a bit more to our attacking game at the moment. “Matty has been different class. His attitude off the pitch is the same as it is on the pitch – positive. “He has been really good for us.” Derek McInnes was thrilled with

the resilience of his side as they stayed in the fight for third spot by staging another brilliant Rugby Park fightback.

Lewis played his part with some excellent saves which included a stunning stop from Stephen O’Donnell’s late volley.

He said: “I was pleased with that save, although it came off his shin! I had a few shots to save and Kilmarnock are a real threat going forward.

“Eamonn Brophy just likes to shoot and he’s got a helluva strike on him. He’s a good player among good attacking options and I was pleased to make some saves and play a part in winning a point.

“We were disappointed with the goals we lost but again we showed character to come back from it. We had opportunities to win the game but a draw was probably a fair result.

“It was two poor goals lost, although I think Ash Taylor had his arms by his side at the penalty.

“It hit his arm but I don’t know where else he could put it and that was harsh on him.

“But the character to come back has been there. We saw it before at Rugby Park.

“I thought we’d kick on and win the game at 2-2 but both teams had chances.

“We couldn’t find that final piece. We went there to win but after being two goals down we can’t be too disappointed.”
