BUDDIES CAN SHOCK CELTS

-

JON OBIKA insists St Mirren can join Hamilton and Livingston by claiming their own Old Firm scalp.

The Buddies striker believes a trip to Celtic Park holds no fears after watching the Lions share a point with the champions and Accies win at Rangers.

A stalemate against St Johnstone on Wednesday night did little for the Paisley side’s plight in the basement zone but Obika is adamant they can claim some points at Parkhead.

He said: “You look at the Hamilton result and it shows what can happen.

“Livingston also drew with Celtic so those teams at the top are going to drop points and we hope it’s against us.

“We need to be ready and we may get one or two chances against Celtic so we need to take them.

“I remember the last game against Celtic at Parkhead (a 2-0 defeat) and I enjoyed it.

“We didn’t get the points but played well. Now we should be confident as there’s no fear. There’s no panic so we just need to go out and show that we belong here.”

Saints sit just two points above Accies and four ahead of Hearts whom they meet next midweek.

And the 29-year-old is adamant the belief in the squad is such that panic isn’t going to set in.

He said: “Game to game we focus on ourselves as we know the table is going to change. There are 10 games left so we know it will change a lot.

“The focus is on our own performances and making sure that in games like the one on Wednesday we get the win and three points.

“The quality is definitely good enough here to get us safe. We’re confident.”
