CLARK’S BACK AT BEST NOW

-

ZANDER CLARK believes his goalkeeping masterclass against St Mirren shows his recent dip in form is history.

The St Johnstone No.1 excelled during Wednesday night’s stalemate in Paisley after admitting he has not hit his own high standards in recent weeks.

That display followed an impressive weekend showing against Celtic and he’s adamant he’s back doing what he does best.

He said: “I know what I’m capable of. Teams and players go through spells when you are not great.

“It’s good to be back making saves because that is what gives you joy.

“If you make a save and it becomes vital then it is that bit more pleasing.”

Saints sit four points adrift of sixth-placed Hibs in the battle for a top-six spot. And with Livingston next up at home tomorrow, the 27-year-old believes a share of the spoils against St Mirren with 10 men keeps them on track.

He said: “You have to look at it as a positive result. We are a point closer to the teams above and it’s sweeter when you go down to 10 men.

“It’s a tough grind and you know they are going to throw everything at you. In the main we dealt with that pretty well.

“We go into Saturday and, if we manage to get all three points, it will be a great return in the last two games.”

The pick of Clark’s saves in Paisley was a late stop from Jason Kerr which he acrobatically pushed on to a post. The keeper said: “Jason went to head it and I’m not sure if he stumbled or slipped but it evaded everyone.

“I managed to get a fingertip to it.”
