WE’LL PROVE OUR CRITICS WEREWRONG

- BY SCOTT BURNS

GLEN KAMARA reckons Rangers silenced the critics against Ross County and believes they can do the same again when they are let loose against Leverkusen.

The Light Blues dug in to claim their first win in four domestic games thanks to Ryan Kent’s deflected winner at the Global Energy Stadium.

A poor run has piled the pressure on Steven Gerrard and his team but Kamara thinks they showed real character to halt their horror run.

It gives Rangers a much-needed shot in the arm before they face Bayer Leverkusen at Ibrox in the first leg of their last16 clash on Thursday.

Kamara admitted: “Going on from the results we have had recently there was pressure on us in this game.

“We just had to stay focused to get the win and we have done that.

“Hopefully, this result can silence some of our critics and we can go and build on it now.

“It is a huge week for the club but it is one we are all looking forward to.

“Now we want to deliver good performances.

“Some people write us off in Europe and they don’t expect us to get results so hopefully we can prove them wrong.”

Gerrard went away to do some thinking after the Scottish Cup exit to Hearts then came back and saw his team lose 1-0 at home to Hamilton.

Kamara confirmed the players held their own clear-the-air talks to try and stoke their season back into life.

He said: “We had a talk after the Hamilton game. All the boys and staff were there. We wanted to get a win in Dingwall and we did.

“It’s important everyone sticks together when things are tough.

“Now we want to keep delivering on the pitch for the rest of the season.”

Winger Kent has toiled to live up to the expectations of his £7million transfer fee but midfield pal Kamara added: “We are delighted to have him and he popped up when we need him.

“After the run we have had we needed a bit of luck but we will take it. Ryan is a great player.

“People talk about price tags but you can’t take any notice of things like that, you just have to focus.

“I think he is getting back to his best.”
