Q Can you give the goalscorers from a Scottish Cup semifinal in 2003 when Rangers beat Motherwell 4-3 and name the two managers? Toby.

A An entertaining Hampden clash saw Bert Konterman, Michael Mols, Lorenzo Amoruso and David Partridge (og) net for Rangers, while Steven Craig, James McFadden and Derek Adams replied. Terry Butcher was the Well manager and Alex McLeish was in charge of Rangers.

Q Has any team won the Scottish Cup and gone right through the tournament without losing a goal? Ronnie Watt.

A This has only been done twice. Queen’s Park did it in the first ever Scottish Cup tournament in season 1873-74, beating Dumbreck 7-0, Eastern 1-0, Renton 2-0 and Clydesdale 2-0. Then Celtic did it in season 1910-11, beating St Mirren 2-0, Galston 1-0, Clyde 1-0, Aberdeen 1-0 and Hamilton 2-0.

Q Can you tell me when Willie Angus, the footballer who won the Victoria Cross for gallantry in World War One, played for Celtic? None of the books I have on Celtic list him as even a reserve-team player. Pat Devlin, East Kilbride.

A Angus joined Celtic a couple of years before the outbreak of World War One but never made it to the first team. Details of his time at Parkhead are sketchy, although I understand he did take part in a couple of minor fixtures. The injuries sustained in his acts of heroism in 1915 put paid to any hope of resuming his football career but Celtic were obviously happy to have had such a hero on their books.

Q Can you settle a pub argument – did Ally McCoist ever play for Everton, possibly during the time Walter Smith was manager of the club. Aitch.

A No. In 1994, while Smith was manager of Rangers, he sent Ian Durrant and Duncan Ferguson on loan to Mike Walker’s Everton but not McCoist. Ferguson proved a big hit at Goodison and later became a permanent £4.2million signing under Walker’s successor, Joe Royle.

Q Please supply date, teams, scorers and crowd for a Queen’s Park v Morton Division Two match in 1958-59. Alan Glasgow, Hamilton.

A On Wednesday April 27, 1959, it ended 3-1 to Morton in front of 1100 fans. Alex Ferguson – whatever happened to him? – scored for Queen’s while John Phillips (2) and Jim McAllister hit Morton’s goals. Queen’s Park – Johnstone, Harnett, Bell, Cromar, McKinven, Turpie, Gilroy, Clark, McLean, Ferguson, Omand. Morton – Kay, Boyd, Dolan, Anderson, Wylie, Pryde, Farrell, McAllister, Beaton, Pearson and Phillips.
