Billy leaves Ancelotti on a big Carlow

-

CARLO ANCELOTTI hoped to make a memorable return to Stamford Bridge but suffered a humiliation he will never forget.

Sensational Chelsea turned in one of their best performances of the season to plunge former boss Ancelotti to the lowest ebb of his threemonth reign at Everton.

Had it not been for Toffees keeper Jordan Pickford then the scoreline would have been far worse.

That should not detract from Chelsea because they were full of energy and movement.

Boss Frank Lampard was delighted with his side as young Scot Billy Gilmour ran the show on his full Premier League debut.

The former Rangers kid followed up his classy FA Cup display in the win over Liverpool with another man-of-the-match show.

And the win kept Chelsea three points clear of Manchester United in the race for a top-four slot.

Lampard said: “There’s still a long way to go. It may look a small cushion from fifth now but we have to fight to the end.

“When I said we were underdogs before, I was looking at the bigger scene. I’m not going to say we’re favourites now.

“There’s a lot of work to be done, and we have to fight the inconsistencies.”

Chelsea never looked back after Mason Mount’s 14th-minute opener.

Pedro doubled the lead before the break while Willian and Olivier Giroud completed the scoring in the second half.

Ancelotti admitted it was a bad day at the office.

The former Chelsea boss said: “Everything went wrong from the beginning. We made a lot of mistakes with the ball, so it was not a good day.”
