Bad luck means nothing when folk are dying

-

health problem and bickering is going to look classless if this health situation worsens.

Hearts owner Ann Budge talking about legal action if her club are relegated was bad enough but Rangers managing director Stewart Robertson issued a statement which included the phrase “we will work to ensure no one runs roughshod over people’s lives”.

Run roughshod over people’s lives? There’s a virus already doing just that. Actually, not running roughshod over people’s lives, ending them. Almost 8,000.

There are medical folk saying a quarter of a million could have perished in the UK alone if the current measures were not put into place.

It is impossible for some fans to see beyond the end of their club scarf but whatever is decided, it has to be accepted.

Imagine how Jurgen Klopp is feeling. Liverpool haven’t lifted a title in 30 years and he’s got it won, yet he says: “Yes, I’m the manager and therefore carry a leadership responsibility with regards to our future on the pitch.

“But in the present moment, with so many people around our city, the region, the country and the world facing anxiety and uncertainty, it would be entirely wrong to speak about anything other than advising people to follow expert advice and look after themselves and each other.”

Would he devastated if the Reds don’t get the title? Yes. But does he care about it with people dying? Looking at those words, not really.

People are going to lose jobs, maybe family members. No matter how passionate all of us feel about football, we need to accept that results and trophies don’t really matter a jot right now. It’ll get done when it gets done.

Folk will battle through all of this and it’ll pass. When it does, we’ll all be back watching the sports we love. And, hopefully, we’ll be seeing Scotland in that delayed Euro 2020. Or 2021.
