Football shocked by the death of Cardiff legend Whitts at just 35
TRIBUTES have poured in for former Cardiff City star Peter Whittingham who has died at the age of 35.
The midfielder suffered head injuries at a pub in Barry on March 7 from what South Wales Police have described as an “accidental fall”.
Manchester United gaffer Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who bossed Whittingham at the Bluebirds, said: “I was deeply saddened to hear of Peter’s passing.
“He was a fantastic footballer and an incredible human being. I thoroughly enjoyed working with him at Cardiff.
“It’s hard to believe that he has been taken from us at such a young age.”
Juventus and Wales star Aaron Ramsey wrote on Instagram: “I will forever be grateful for you taking me under your wing at Cardiff.

“I’m proud to have played alongside you. Rest in peace Whitts.”
Former Liverpool and England striker Robbie Fowler, who spent the 2007-08 season at Cardiff, tweeted: “Just awful news... One of life’s good guys, a real diamond of a man.”
Whittingham began his career at boyhood club Aston Villa and had spells at Burnley and Derby before embarking on a 10-year spell at Cardiff in January 2007.
Whittingham played in the FA Cup Final in 2008 and the Carling Cup Final in 2012 before ending his career at Blackburn Rovers in 2018.
A Cardiff statement read: “As a footballer he excelled with talent, ease, grace and humility. Nobody did it better.”
