football is secondary. So what should happen to Scottish football in the meantime? We all have to be grown up enough now to realise there are bigger priorities for all of us.

I don’t care what people say. If they want to get worked up over something as trivial as this right now, I’ll leave them to it.

And if the powers that be decide to act differently then I’m not going to be ranting and raving about it either.

I accept now that decisions are going to have to be made and not everyone will agree with them. So be it.

But I’m sick of hearing now about finding a way to get the games finished – because people need to take a look outside their window at how things are in the big wide world.

We’re living through a global nightmare. Thousands upon thousands of people are sick and dying all around the planet. Do you think they give a f*** about how this might affect 10 in a row?

Even those of us who live and breathe Scottish football have to understand there are far bigger issues about to pile up. One look at the situation at Hearts should help realisation start to sink in.

I’m a fan of Ann Budge because I admire the way she has handled herself since taking over at Tynecastle.

The woman speaks a lot of sense and is always straight to the point.

If she believes these wage cuts are needed to get through this crisis then she is probably ahead of the game.

Who knows how many other clubs will have to make the same choices over the next few months?

My own club will probably have enough in the bank to keep going for the next two or three weeks without any gate receipts. But who knows what happens after that?

That’s why I have to praise the SFA for acting so quickly to release £1.5million worth of emergency cash to clubs up and down the country.

I’m not always one for patting the blazers on the back but chief executive Ian Maxwell and president Rod Petrie deserve credit for acting so swiftly to help clubs survive what’s coming.

I just hope they have a few more measures and ideas up their sleeves because I am starting to realise how badly the game is going to need it.

But, as a football geek, I admit I’m worried the game in this country may be about to change for good. I’m an upbeat person by nature. I always try to find the positive in any situation.

But the truth of the matter is, the more the days pass by, the more I find myself hoping for the best while preparing for the worst.
