Bite frenzy after cocaine binge left police officer in fear of blood infection

A NAKED man sank his teeth into a female police officer during a cocaine-fuelled rampage.

Ross Ferris, 26, left Renfrewshi­re officer Alison Laughlan with a three-week wait for blood-borne infections after savagely attacking her during a bout of drug-induced paranoia.

Ferris had been on a binge of the Class-A drug when he flipped out at his parents’ home in Hopeman, Erskine.

Paisley Sheriff Court heard when officers attended on November 23 last year, he emerged at the door wearing only a towel, which fell off when he ran down the street chased by police.

Procurator fiscal depute Ziad Ul-Hassan said: “He lashed out at her, causing the baton to fall to the ground. He lunged forward biting her on the left forearm with significan­t force.”

She managed to wrench her arm free from his jaws, when he attempted to bite another cop. Ferris was put in a cell van, began shouting “F*** off you c **** ” at police and claimed he hadn’t done anything wrong.

His attack punctured PC

Laughlan’s skin, leaving his teeth marks. She was given a tetanus jab, a hepatitis vaccine and a 21-day course of antibiotic­s.

Ferris pleaded guilty to charges of assault to injury against PC Laughlan by biting her and assaulting two other officers, Frazer Cambridge and James Gunn, by attempting to bite them too.

Sheriff James Spy handed him 300 hours of unpaid work to be completed within 12 months.
