It’s Dame on for new look We’ll Meet Again

-

BY KEVIN MAGUIRE DAME Vera Lynn today summons a wartime spirit to declare “We’ll Meet Again” after the Covid-19 lockdown.

The forces sweetheart who rallied the nation against Hitler praises the sacrifices of families whose normal lives are suspended now schools, pubs and many shops are shut as they’re told to stay indoors.

The 103-year-old hero’s mournful hymn of hope is sung over scenes of eerily deserted landmarks in a powerful new video backing the Government message to stay home, protect the NHS and save lives.

“It’s important to recognise the sacrifices millions are making by putting their lives on hold,” said Vera, pictured below with her daughter Virginia.

“But we also need to remind people things will improve if we continue to pull together and we will all meet again when this is over.

“We faced a very different enemy in World War II but the actions we are all taking today reminds me of the unity that was forged from adversity during the war.”

Vera’s wartime hit We’ll Meet Again is performed on the film by singer Sophie Madeleine.

Madeleine said: “I’m thrilled my version of Dame Vera’s song is being used as the soundtrack for this campaign.”

Over photographs of cities without people including Edinburgh and London, as well as beaches and a classroom, it reinforces the message that together we can beat coronavirus.

The film ends with the message: “Thank you for keeping your distance. If we stay apart now, together we will beat this. And come back stronger.”
