We need big clubs to help us

-

FROM BACK PAGE Leipzig, Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Dortmund have donated more than £18million to support lesser clubs.

McMenemy has pleaded with Scotland’s biggest hitters to do the same.

He said: “It’s been talked about that there was £4.5m put in by the Scottish football authorities.

“That money has gone out through the normal distribution of funds so clubs like Stenhousemuir, out of that £4.5m, we got just over £9000.

“The Premiership alone take 83 per cent of all money in Scottish football.

“If they even said we’d take 73 per cent, which is still a big chunk, they could save just about every other club in Scotland.

“You could save certainly 20 or 30 other clubs just with that 10 per cent.

“It can’t be business as usual in terms of payments. The top three clubs in the Premiership got £395,000 and we got £1350 from SPFL.

“Other countries have done it. Germany come together and are trying to make sure they’re there for each other. Scottish football must come together to make sure all 42 clubs are still surviving when we’re ready to go again.”

McMenemy has also asked for more leadership from the top of the game.

He said: “If we make sure we are all in this together and have some sort of decision and leadership we can plot our way out of it.”

Sky Sports have been slammed for cutting all their schedules and replacing them with Groundhog Day on a loop. On a loop. On a loop.

ON THIS DAY

2012: Aston Villa captain and former Celtic star Stiliyan Petrov announced he’d been diagnosed with acute leukaemia age 32. The Bulgarian retired a year later but was seen back in a Villa shirt in 2016 after beating cancer.
