LENNON: WE MAY HAVE TO SLASH WAGES

FROM BACK PAGE which is understood to be near £60million.

And Lennon has admitted cuts may have to be considered in the near future with the prospect of another three months at the very least without games.

When asked on BBC Five Live if cuts were a possibility he said: “Yes. We’ll probably have a look at things at the end of April in terms of the club as a whole.

“Peter (Lawwell) and the board will review it then. At the minute we are okay.

“For Scottish clubs this is the time of the year when they are putting out season tickets but obviously the general public are wary and reluctant to part with their money as they don’t know what they are paying for yet and we still haven’t finished this season.

“We don’t know whether that’s going to happen or not. We need to get a decision sooner rather than later on that.

“There has to be a backstop date at some stage so we can start to plan ahead.

“We’re financially robust but are still feeling the hit.

“We’ve been told by the chief medical officer here it’s going to be 12 to 13 weeks in this situation so it’s really difficult to plan for the future.”

Lennon also revealed a small number of Celtic players are back working at Lennoxtown.

With players out of their routines and struggling for structure, members of the squad who are still in Scotland and not in their homelands have returned for isolated workouts.

Lennon said: “We are trying to find ways of keeping the players stimulated and occupied.

“We’ve opened the training ground and they come in ones and twos and train out on the grass.

“It’s a closed-off area. We’d five in today and we’ll have eight in tomorrow but in groups of two.

“We’re not allowed out on the grass with them and they are basically doing their own thing.”

Meanwhile, as Lennon admitted to using some of his spare time to assess potential signing targets he confirmed a deal to extend Odsonne Edouard’s contract is being eyed.

Record Sport revealed last month Parkhead chiefs were hoping to persuade their star striker to remain for one more term amid £30m interest from south of the border.

With uncertainty set to swamp the market when it reopens due to the impending cash crisis Lennon said: “Ideally we’d like to sit down with him (Edouard).

“The landscape has changed from where we were a month ago.

“It’s uncertain. Ideally you would like to keep your prized assets for at least another year anyway.”
