5 THINGS TO DO

-

MAKE FLAVOURED BOOZE

Let’s face it, most of us need a drink during these strange days. Rather than spend your one time a day leaving the house going for booze, try making it. You will need: 700ml bottle of good quality vodka, two tablespoons of juniper berries, six cardamom pods, two peppercorns, one teaspoon of coriander seeds and a strip of lemon peel/orange peel. To make: pour everything into your bottle of vodka and leave it for a day to infuse, then strain it through a sieve and you’re all set.

BOOK FOLDING Make use of the tomes you’ve read by learning how to do book folding. This involves folding the pages of a hardcover book, sometimes cutting shapes or patterns out of the paper, but all still in the book’s own binding. You can make all kinds of amazing 3-D creations which can be hung on a wall or on top of a table.

MACRAME Once you’ve mastered knitting or embroidery, give macrame a try. It’s the latest trend in the yarn world and you don’t need needles and hooks – you’ll just need to master a few key knots to start creating stunning pieces to brighten up your home or your look. The four basic knots are lark’s head and diagonal half hitch knot, half hitch knot, half square knot and square knot. Visit www.hobbycraft.co.uk for more inspiration.

DANCE Whether it’s the foxtrot or the funky chicken, you will find hundreds of tutorials online – YouTube is a good place to start – to do on your own or with your cooped-up family. You may feel silly to start with but it will keep you active and you’ll have a good time once you get going.

DO A PUZZLE A great way to keep your mind sharp and involve young and old in a joint activity. There’s probably one in a cupboard you haven’t seen for years. If not, choose from jigsawpuzzlesdirect.co.uk (though delivery could take a while). Puzzles are super-addictive and a good way to relax.
