A TERMINALLY ill Scots mum who beat coronavirus raced from her hospital bed to her dying mother’s care home window to see her one last time. Sharon McAllister was gravely ill after being diagnosed with Covid-19 and spent seven days in isolation at the Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy. The 49-year-old, who has leiomyosarcoma, a rare cancer that affects her muscle tissue, was terrified she wouldn’t get to say goodbye to Sandra Bone. The 73-year-old was fighting kidney cancer at a care home in Fife. Sharon was given the all-clear from coronavirus but was left devastated after being told her mum didn’t have long left to live. She raced from the hospital to see Sandra, who had held on to see her daughter. Sharon wasn’t allowed inside and was forced to grab a final glimpse through her mum’s window. She said: “It gave me closure. It was like she was hanging on till I got there. We arrived just in time. It was hard but I’m glad I saw her.”

Her husband Derek, 58, said the family couldn’t celebrate Sharon coming home.

He said: “It was a real race against time to get her out of the hospital so she could go down.

“The home wouldn’t let her in but she got a look in the window. It’s been hard for everyone.”

Mum-of-four Sharon feared she would never see her own family again after doctors asked her to sign a “do not resuscitate” form.

She said: “When I was told I had coronavirus, that’s the first time in my life I’ve panicked. It has proven just how strong I am.”

Daughter Robyn, 23, said: “She’s so strong, such an inspiration.”
