Gers have lost a few quid on Morelos now

- BY FRASER WILSON

KENNY MILLER reckons Rangers should cash in on Alfredo Morelos at the end of the season despite admitting the striker’s value has plummeted.

The Colombian has scored only once since returning from the winter break – a dip in form that coincided with Rangers falling well off the pace at the top of the Premiership.

But former Ibrox star Miller is convinced his old club could still rake in a decent sum for Morelos who has struck 29 goals in total this season.

The 23-year-old has never hidden his desire to play in the Premier League and Miller is convinced he looks like a player whose head is elsewhere after three years at Ibrox.

He said: “Ideally, Rangers want to keep their best players. But, particularly in Alfredo’s situation, it has been going on long enough now that summer may be the time to get the best possible deal. Then you can regroup, replace and strengthen in other areas.”

However, a year on from Stewart Robertson bracketing Morelos in the £20million category, Miller warns the frontman’s value has dipped significantly.

He said: “The club’s priority now is getting the right price for him. I still think he looks like he probably wants to move, all the signs and noises surrounding him are he wants to maybe try new things, which is fine.

“There’s still a job to be done for Rangers, if the season gets finished.

“He needs to concentrate on that and once that’s done then he can look at his future.

“But the thing for Rangers is his price might not be quite what it could have been leading into January, for sure.

“It’s a case of getting the right deal for everyone involved, a deal that suits the player, that he’s happy to go along with, and a deal that suits the club.

“I expect there would still be interest there, you don’t become a bad player overnight.

“I’m sure there will still be interest there – at what level, I don’t know.

“I don’t think it’ll be the figures that were being bandied about three or four months ago.”

Miller, now coaching in Australia with Newcastle Jets, reckons any money Rangers could bring in through selling Morelos would have to be split between covering the shortfalls due to the coronavirus crisis and replacing their star man.

He added: “If Alfredo goes, there might be some funds available but that could be used to cover money lost in this period of time. If he does go he will definitely need to be replaced.”
