AJ fight off as camp look to box clever and land Fury

-

ANTHONY JOSHUA’S bout with Kubrat Pulev has been postponed – as Tyson Fury is being earmarked to step in for a British blockbuster.

Joshua was due to take on the Bulgarian for the WBA, WBO, IBF and IBO world heavyweight titles on June 20 in London.

A new date has yet to be confirmed, although promoter Eddie Hearn laid out his hopes it would be the end of July.

The Matchroom chief said: “If it starts kicking on beyond that, you get to a situation where if Joshua is only going to box once this year he’d like it to be against Tyson Fury.”

Fury is expected to complete his trilogy with Deontay Wilder in 2020 but Hearn is hopeful of a deal.

He added: “If Bob Arum and Al Haymon (Fury and Wilder’s promoters) can talk and make Deontay Wilder wait a little bit we would love to go into that fight next. We are contractually bound to face Pulev, who is with Bob Arum, and there is a deal to be done.” BASKETBALL: Scotland coach Rob Beveridge is stuck in New Zealand after taking a job that evaporated without bossing a single game.

The Aussie, who led Scotland to fourth place at the Commonwealth Games in 2018, signed a deal with Southland Sharks last month. But with the NZ Basketball League off and the country in lockdown, his hopes are pinned on trying to get a flight back to Australia next week.

He said: “I’ll have to do another two weeks of isolation in a hotel in Sydney before going home.” TENNIS: The Lawn Tennis Association announced a package of support worth around £20million for venues, coaches, officials and players across Britain. It will aid “those who have been most severely affected by the pandemic”.
