Brown fires out warning over future of Formula 1
UPDATE McLAREN boss Zak Brown insists F1 needs big changes if it’s to survive in the face of the coronavirus crisis.
Bosses are set to meet today to discuss cost-saving plans but the teams are divided over how best to safeguard the sport.
A series of changes have already been agreed to lower costs because of the cancellation of races.
But Brown believes the £143m budget cap scheduled to begin next year should be lowered significantly, to roughly £82m, before it plunges the entire sport into disaster.
He said: “This is potentially devastating and if it is to enough teams – which doesn’t have to mean more than two – then it’s very threatening to F1 as a whole.
“If this isn’t handled right I could see four teams disappearing.” SNOOKER: Ronnie O’Sullivan has revealed he’s happier than ever having taken a back seat.
The five-time world champion has won just one title this season and played in fewer tournaments.
But O’Sullivan said: “This year I’ve done everything I shouldn’t have done in snooker. I’ve had more fun.
“I’ve not practised, not played in enough tournaments but I look back and don’t regret one bit of it.” BOXING: Bulgarian fighter Kubrat Pulev has pledged half of his purse from his title fight against Anthony Joshua to help battle coronavirus.
The 38-year-old is set to earn £4m from the postponed fight, which was set for London on June 20.
Pulev said: “I’ll give doctors, nurses and hospitals the necessary equipment to deal with this devilish virus. I’ll donate 50 per cent of the money I earn from the match” CRICKET: Fast bowler Mark Wood insists it was totally right for England players to make a £500,000 donation to the England and Wales Cricket Board and selected good causes.
He said: “We have obligations to be good role models.”
