Dons boss: Let all 42 clubs vote on season

-

FROM BACK PAGE believe the season should be called as the teams currently sit.

He believes the fairest solution would be to put it to the vote with Scotland’s 42 senior clubs then go with the majority.

McInnes said: “We must be close to the SPFL coming out with their view on how they see things panning out.

“They will want to be seen to give the season every chance to be completed but with every day that goes past it becomes more unlikely to finish.

“There are a lot of discussions going on every day with the clubs. It’d be helpful to hear the options, let people know what they are and then see if the clubs can agree on something – even if you have to put it to a vote.

“Not everyone is going to be satisfied with it but the importance of getting back to playing football is clear.

“So if we could get some sort of broad agreement of what it’s going to look like once the restrictions are lifted that would be good. It’s just common sense that the longer it takes to come back the less likely we are to finish the current season.”

UEFA had left it to league officials to make up their minds over their own campaigns but have since turned the screw after Belgium declared Club Brugge as their champions.

Europe’s governing club body is now threatening bans if campaigns aren’t completed.

McInnes said: “UEFA have to keep the financial pot going and because of that they have to be giving it every chance.

“There has been talk of people being denied European football. They have their reasons for giving out that message but it’s clear that all clubs and nations won’t be in full agreement.

“UEFA are trying to demonstrate their power and are encouraging people not to make knee-jerk reactions.

“But when it comes to the practicalities of what next season is going to look like then each federation should have the right to make these decisions without fear of punishment.

“We are passionate about football. But it looks like we will be on lockdown for another seven or eight weeks at least and even then we don’t know if we’ll go straight back to normal lives.

“If we’re back training June or July then playing in August that would be the best case scenario.”
