Hoops star was Edding for 30 goals

-

FROM BACK PAGE the abrupt finish stopped him in his tracks.

Edouard rattled 28 goals in 45 appearances last term and revealed he had his sights on a major milestone – only to see his target scuppered.

He said: “On a personal level I was frustrated that we didn’t get to finish the league on the pitch.

“I don’t normally share my personal targets but this season it was 30 goals minimum.

“I’m sure if the league had continued as normal I could have scored 30.

“But the most important thing is the title. Celtic winning nine in a row.”

Edouard was denied his target goal tally but he insisted Celtic were well on course to cruise to the Premiership crown.

Neil Lennon’s men were 13 points clear when the curtain came down but the French ace is refusing to listen to any suggestions the Hoops could have been hauled back.

He added: “Without question this team deserves to be champions.

“It’s a good decision [to halt the leagues] and the right decision. The most important thing is safety.

“But given how we played on the pitch we absolutely deserve to be champions.”

Eddy reckons silencing Ibrox was his sweetest moment of the season.

He scored the opening goal in the 2-0 win over Rangers last September which helped the Hoops steal an early march on the way to nine in a row.

The Frenchman revealed his hush celebrations were a reaction to the stick he was getting from Gers fans.

He said: “The goal at Ibrox was my favourite goal of the season.

“Every time I touched the ball the Rangers fans weren’t happy, they weren’t happy with me.

“My goal was a good answer and the celebration matched it. I think the Celtic fans liked it too!”

Edouard is gearing up to return to training after Premiership clubs were given the green light to resume restricted work on June 11.

He added: “The most important thing to me is to get the chance to celebrate the title with the fans and my team-mates.”
