KEITH: MOTHERWELL HAVE PLENTY OF LEADERS READY TO BE FIR PARK SKIPPER

-

KEITH LASLEY knows what it takes to be the Motherwell captain.

The Fir Park assistant manager believes there are a number of strong candidates within their dressing room ready to succeed Peter Hartley in the leadership role at the Steelmen.

Stephen Robinson’s side are searching for a new skipper following Hartley’s departure from the club.

Lasley captained Motherwell for five years until his retirement in 2017 and insists there are players ready to step up to the important role.

And he reckons Allan Campbell, Declan Gallagher and Trevor Carson are just three prominent candidates.

Lasley said: “From speaking to Peter and seeing his quotes over recent days you could see how much he bought into the club and what it meant to captain the club.

“Albeit the captain’s role has evolved over the years, it is still an

important role and one we value highly.

“Peter displayed a number of leadership qualities that are required both on and off the pitch, at a club like ours.

“He carried himself very well and was certainly

pushing the dressing room forward.

“These are some of the qualities that are required and we feel there are certainly other leaders in the dressing room.

“You could list a number of candidates but certainly

Allan Campbell and Declan Gallagher are two when you initially think about who could be captain who come to the forefront.

“Just with what they bring on and off the pitch, their drive to improve, their drive to help their team-mates.

“But there are a number of other candidates as well. I think of Trevor Carson as well, an international goalkeeper, and I could go through a number of players. But I’m sure these players will be in the manager’s thoughts.

“In our dressing room we certainly encourage there to be a drive from within that. I know how important that is and certainly Declan, Allan and Trevor are capable of doing that.”
