Scientists: 36 alien races in our galaxy

-

EXPERTS believe there could be 36 intelligent alien races living in our galaxy.

Scientists at Nottingham University used the assumption that intelligent life develops in similar ways to what is does on Earth.

Astrophysics professor Christopher Conselice, who led the research, said: “There should be at least a few dozen active civilisations in our galaxy under the assumption that it takes five billion years for intelligent life to form on other planets, as on Earth.

“The idea is looking at evolution, but on a cosmic scale.”

The study was published in The Astrophysical Journal.

KILLING Eve star Jodie Comer thought about losing her Merseyside accent before actor Stephen Graham told her not to.

The 27-year-old from Liverpool has become a worldwide star in the BBC series playing ruthless assassin Villanelle, who uses multiple disguises and accents.

Some fans were shocked when they heard her real Scouse accent – and the actress now admits she considered changing it.

She said: “It’s funny because when I was much younger, when I was with another agency and really young, I don’t know where I got it from, but I thought, ‘I have to lose my accent’.

And I remember working with Stephen Graham and he was great. He was like, ‘Don’t you dare lose your accent’. And I didn’t.

“Maybe it’s just this idea of being working class from the north-west, you don’t hear those voices all the time on television.”

Jodie told Killing Eve to take out a scene in series two of the show which was to include her Scouse accent, thinking it was “too gimmicky” using her own dialect.

But you’ll hear her Liverpool lilt in a BBC remake of monologue series Talking Heads. The re-imagined series, which originally aired in the 80s, will feature 10 updated performances of Alan Bennett’s monologues as well as two new pieces written especially for the revival, with big names joining Jodie including Martin Freeman, Sarah Lancashire and Tamsin Greig.

Jodie’s Talking Head, Her Big Chance, tells the story of Lesley, an aspiring actress who thinks she has managed to get her breakthrough role in a film in West Germany.
