A NOTORIOUS crime family were in mourning yesterday after the sudden death of a relative.

Debbie Lyons - the sister of Eddie Lyons and aunt to crime boss Steven Lyons - was found dead in Milton, Glasgow, on Tuesday after police forced entry to the flat where she was staying.

Police said they were treating the death as “unexplained”.

Sources said the 50-year-old had struggled with drugs and been a “lost soul for 30 years”.

They added: “Every attempt to help get her off drugs failed miserably. It’s sad to say that this outcome was inevitable.”

It’s understood the alarm was raised when Debbie wasn’t seen at the chemist where her methadone was administered for three days.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Around

BY RECORD REPORTER 3.30pm on Tuesday, June 16, officers were called to a property in the Scaraway Terrace area of Glasgow, following the sudden death of a 50-year-old woman.

“The death is being treated as unexplained pending further inquiries.

“There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances.”

The Crown Office confirmed it had launched a probe into Debbie’s death and said relatives would be notified of its findings.

Eddie Lyons, 61, ran a youth club which was linked to criminal activity in the north of Glasgow.

Earlier this year, he was told to pay £24,000 following a dirty money probe after being found guilty of a £259,000 mortgage fraud in 2010.

He was also spared jail and ordered to hand over £75,000 under Proceeds of Crimes laws in 2012.

Prosecutors warned at the time they would go after the gangland figure if more cash became available.

Debbie’s other brothers are bank robber Johnny, 54, and MoT station boss David, 60, whose garage was the scene of a triple shooting which left his nephew dead in 2006.

Michael Lyons, 21, was killed while Steven Lyons and Robert Pickett were wounded. Hitmen Raymond Anderson and James McDonald, of the Lyons’ rivals, the Daniels clan, were later jailed over the shooting.

Johnny was the first member of the Lyons gang to be shot during his family’s long-running feud with the Daniel.

He survived the gun attack in 2003.

The Lyons and Daniel mobs have waged a turf war for control of Scotland’s drug trade for 20 years. The feud has resulted in a series of stabbings and shootings as the violence escalated.
