Man pleads not guilty to shotgun murder of boxer & T2 star Bradley

Accused also denies killing bid & 120mph chase

A MAN has denied the shotgun murder of Trainspotting T2 actor Bradley Welsh at his Edinburgh home.

Sean Orman, 29, is alleged to have killed Bradley, 48, in April last year by firing a loaded shotgun at him in the city’s Chester Street.

It is also alleged that he previously evinced malice and ill will towards the gym boss and former Hibs casual.

Trainspotting author Irvine Welsh previously said his “heart was broken” over Bradley’s death.

He was among the mourners who turned out at the funeral at Mortonhall Crematorium in last June. Bradley’s green coffin was carried into the chapel building to a round of applause and The Proclaimers track Sunshine on Leith, a Hibs anthem, was played.

He was picked for the role of a gangland boss in T2 after the film’s director Danny Boyle visited his gym.

Bradley had served time in jail for extortion but became an accomplished boxer and went on to win the British title in 1993.

He devoted much of his time to charity work.

In court yesterday, accused Orman further denied the attempted murder of another man at his home in the capital a month earlier.

He is charged with assaulting David McMillan, 49, to his severe injury, permanent impairment and to the danger of his life at an address in Pitcairn Grove.

It is alleged that, while acting with others unknown, he repeatedly struck him on the head and body with a machete or similar instrument.

He is also accused of assaulting David McMillan, 24, at the same place and date by striking him on the body with a machete or similar instrument.

Defence counsel Ian Duguid QC told the High Court in Edinburgh: “He pleads not guilty to the indictment.”

The Crown has brought a total of 15 charges against Orman, including an attempt to defeat the ends of justice after the attempted murder in March 2019 by setting fire to an Audi A5 car at Harperrig Way, while acting with others, in a bid to destroy evidence.

He faces charges of resetting stolen cars on various dates and possession of heroin and diazepam.

Orman is also alleged on that date to have failed to stop for a uniformed police officer on the city bypass.

He is charged with dangerous driving on the same date by driving in excess of speed limits and on the wrong side of the road at streets in the city, including an allegation that he drove at speeds of up to 123mph on the bypass while being directed to stop by a pursuing police vehicle.

Orman followed proceedings via a video link as Mr Duguid told the court that a trial in the case was estimated to take four weeks.

The judge, Lord Beckett, said he would normally have fixed a trial date but that was impossible because of “the Covid situation”.

He continued the case until August 5 in Glasgow, when he said he hoped to set a trial date.
