JAMIE IS COURT IN THE MIDDLE

WAITING GAME

-

Jamie macDonalD accepts his former club Hearts’ challenge of their relegation in court – but admits it’s not making it any easier for him to find a new club.

The Jambos’ hearing has been taking place this week as Scottish football holds its breath for an outcome that will allow the top flight to kick-off on August 1.

That’s less than a month away and MacDonald, like many others, is looking for a club after leaving Kilmarnock.

While he doesn’t blame Hearts for their course of action, he did explain how it’s having a knock-on effect on those trying to get themselves fixed up.

The 34-year-old keeper said: “It’s a difficult period for most players – it’s not the best time to be out of contract.

“Probably the Hearts thing has held things up in terms of clubs willing to speak to players and knowing budgets.

“There will be a wee bit more movement in the next couple of weeks as the clubs know roughly when the leagues are going to start and which league they’ll be

By Ross PilcheR in. There are a few I have been speaking to but it’s just waiting for firm offers.

“Because of the situation, people are waiting to get their budgets in and clubs probably don’t want to pay players just now. They’re going to wait as long as they possibly can.

“So it’s just a waiting game at the minute. Unfortunately for players out of contract we’re just going to have to sit tight at the minute and wait for everybody to get on with things.”

MacDonald decided to reject Killie’s offer of a new deal in order to try to find a club closer to home.

That naturally saw him linked with a return to Tynecastle before Craig Gordon was signed at the start of this week and MacDonald revealed he would be interested.

But the 2012 Scottish Cup winner explained that was more a case of him stating the obvious
