Uni research team snap dolphin pics

-

BY SEAN MURPHY BOTTLENOSE dolphins have been photographed off the Fife coast by a university research team.

The animals were snapped in the Tay Estuary by a surveying squad from St Andrews University as they returned to their research programme after a break due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Two groups were photographed near Tayport and another group between Crail and Anstruther as part of a long-term study of the bottlenose population off the eastern Scottish coast.

Surveys of the dolphins have been carried out between May and September each year since 1989 by the Sea Mammal Research Unit, based at St Andrews University, and Aberdeen University.

SCAMMERS in China were rumbled after they stole online photos of Scotland’s most famous Shetland sheepdogs to advertise fake products on Amazon. Shetland ambulance technician Kaylee Garrick has built up a worldwide fan club for the photos she takes of her Shelties and a distinctive Klee Kai bitch called Ghost. So, when a fan in America saw Ghost’s face on a mat she ordered which was supposed to feature an image of Shelties, she knew the pic was Kaylee’s.

Tara Mauldin messaged Kaylee and said: “I ordered a Sheltie place mat off Amazon and when I got it, I saw Ghost in the middle of a bunch of Shelties – can’t miss that little face.”

When Kaylee looked on the site, she was shocked to see 21 of her images – including ones with Lerwick graffiti in the background – being used by sellers from the Chinese province of Jiangxisheng.

Kaylee, 30, from Scalloway, said: “I couldn’t believe it. My photos had been stolen and were being sold on Amazon all over the world.

“There is such a lot goes into these photos and it hurts for someone to treat them like this.”

A spokesman for Amazon said they had now taken the images off their site.
