Our best friend, our life, our world , our everything

Heartbroken mum pays tribute to ‘guardian angel’ daughter Freya, 7

A MUM has told how she tried to save her daughter from drowning.

Brooke Reid, 26, has been devastated by the loss of Freya, seven.

THE heartbroken mum of a seven-year-old who drowned after getting into difficulty in a river has paid tribute to her “guardian angel”.

Tragic Freya Skene died despite frantic attempts by mum Brooke Reid and partner Sean McKiddie to save her at Ossian’s Cave, in the Hermitage near Dunkeld, Perthshire, on Monday night.

The youngster was raced to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee but passed away a short time later.

Last night, Brooke, 26, spoke of her huge loss.

She said: “We had to say goodbye to our best friend, our life, our world, our everything.

“I stayed with Freya the whole night and most of today before she was taken away.

“Everyone tried their best and I couldn’t be any more grateful for the emergency teams all out trying to save us.

“Me and Freya were in a freak accident that had us pulled down multiple waterfalls.

“We were playing in the fairy pools and the next minute, out of nowhere, a current hit us both and swept us away.

“I tried my very best to hold on and grab every rock I was passing but before I knew it, we had lost each other.

“I was lucky to survive but sadly our poor baby girl passed away.

“As I was trapped on rocks, Sean managed to get Freya out but it was too late. However, the emergency teams treated us both as best as they could.

“My heart and everyone else’s within the families are broken. We were having such a good day. How could this happen? How could our baby girl be taken away from us so suddenly? How did I survive?

“What I know is I survived for a reason and we are all going to make her so proud. I know she left a print on everyone’s heart because she was so kind, caring, bubbly and determined in life. I don’t know how life will be without her but together as a family we are going to do everything we can to make sure she is always remembered.” In the Facebook post, Brooke added: “Please, I ask if you can give us time. We are all still trying to process what has happened. “Freya Ava Skene, we will always love you and were so proud to have you in our life for that short time. “Like I have said from the beginning, when you came into my life and saved me, you’re my little Guardian Angel and now you truly are. I love you, honey bunch.”

Police Scotland said: “We were called at about 6.50pm on Monday to a report of two people in the water at Ossian’s Cave, in the Hermitage, Dunkeld.

“A seven-year-old girl and a 26-year-old woman were taken to Ninewells Hospital. Sadly, the child was pronounced dead a short time later.

“The woman was treated for non life-threatening injuries and later released.

“The death is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be sent to the procurator fiscal.”
