Cal: Tommy will soon get his hands on Wright job

CALLUM BOOTH reckons Tommy Wright will bag a return ticket to Scottish football when the timing is right.

The Northern Irishman is keen to get back in the game but a UK club would have to pay compensation to St Johnstone if they want him before November.

Saints defender Booth, 29, was surprised to see his former boss linked with Dundee United before Micky Mellon replaced Hearts-bound Robbie Neilson earlier this week.

The one-time United player couldn’t see Wright’s hands-on approach fitting in at Tannadice.

Booth, who will face his former club in the season curtain-raiser, said: “I could never have seen that happening.

“Tommy likes to run a club from top to bottom and I don’t think he’d have got that at United. It wouldn’t have suited him.

“I’m not too surprised he hasn’t ended up at United. He will get a good job somewhere though.”

Booth made a rapid return to Tayside last year after an ill-fated spell with crisis-hit Bury.

The derby is still provisional until the outcome of Hearts’ appeal against relegation.

But former Hibs kid Booth added: “From what I’m hearing it’s 99 per cent sure Dundee United will be in the top division. I had a feeling it was going to be Easter Road or Tannadice for our first game.

“It’s an attractive game to get started but the downside is we’d have taken a lot of fans and United would’ve had a big crowd as well. It would’ve been close to a sell-out.

“Hopefully when we go there later in the season the supporters are allowed in.”
