Gran’s stroke plight inspired fundraiser run
BY VIVIENNE AITKEN THE grand-daughter of Katie Morag author Mairi Hedderwick has smashed her fundraising target for a stroke charity.
Mairi, 81, suffered a stroke two years ago which left her unable to write any more stories about the islander.
Her struggle inspired her grand-daughter Kirsty Hedderwick, 20, from Beauly, Inverness, to raise more than £6000 for the charity – 3000 per cent over her original target of £200.
Kirsty braved a 24-hour ultra-marathon to raise vital funds for CHSS by running a 50m circuit around her house in Beauly continuously for 24 hours.
She said: “I thought of all the hardships that people living with chest, heart and stroke conditions, including my grannie, have to endure daily.”
