Amber’s ‘2 bottles of wine a night & drugs’

-

BY TOM BRYANT AMBER Heard used to drink two bottles of wine a night and was a frequent drug user, Johnny Depp told the High Court yesterday.

On his fourth day in the witness box, the Hollywood star gave an insight into the couple’s tempestuous relationship and said no other woman had ever accused him of hitting them.

His barrister David Sherborne asked about Depp’s claim that the actress “was not always entirely supportive” in his challenges with drugs and alcohol.

He said: “Ms Heard kept a bottle of whiskey – Bulleit bourbon, in the freezer for me. A shot would be poured when I arrived, even if Ms Heard was asleep.”

Depp also said she drank “two or three bottles” of wine a night – “normally two”.

Sherborne asked about an email Heard sent to pals before a trip to the

Hicksville trailer park in California in June 2013, asking them “to bring food, booze and drug of choice – yay”.

Depp said it accorded with Heard’s behaviour – as did her medical notes, which refer to “substance abuse, including addiction to cocaine and liquor” as well as “severe outbursts of anger and rage”.

Asked whether “any woman ever accused you of hitting them in your 57 years”, Depp also said no.

The actor was again asked about earlier incidents – including one in 1994 when he allegedly “trashed” a New York hotel room while dating model Kate Moss. Depp said she had been asleep at the time and he denied ever hitting her. He was also questioned about Heard’s 30th birthday party in Los

Angeles in April 2016,and a “defecation incident” in which faeces was found in the couple’s bed.

Depp told the court it was “a fitting end to the relationship” and said he was “convinced” either his ex-wife or one of her “cohort” was involved – and not their Yorkshire terriers.

He is suing The Sun’s publisher News Group Newspapers over a 2018 article labelling him a “wife beater”. Sasha Wass, NGN’s counsel, claimed Depp was sent photos of the faeces, which led to “jokes like ‘Amber Turd’, ‘Amber in the dumps’”.

Depp replied: “Initially, I did laugh because it was so strange.”

The night before, Depp arrived late for Heard’s party after hearing some “unfortunate” financial news, the court heard. Asked if he had taken recreational drugs to relieve his stress, he said it was “very likely” he smoked marijuana.

Depp told the court Heard was “venting how upset she was that I was so late and that I had made a fool of her”.

He said it “ramped up and became aggressive”, so he went to bed to read.

Depp denied Wass’s claim that he threw a magnum of champagne at her, missing. He also denied “grabbing her hair and pushing her on to the bed”.

Asked if he left Heard a note which read “happy f ***** g birthday”, Depp said “it is very, very possible”.

Depp told the court his ex-wife had “rules”. Asked what happened if he broke them, he replied: “An argument would ensue and all hell would break loose.” NGN claims its article is true.

The case continues.
