Weller joins greats with No1 album
BY RICK FULTON MODFATHER Paul Weller has joined an exclusive club of musicians to score No1 albums in five consecutive decades.
Weller’s 15th solo album On Sunset went straight to the top of the UK charts yesterday with 24,000 sales.
Paul, 62, said: “I’m very proud of On Sunset so to have it go in at No1 is brilliant.”
His chart-topping albums include The Gift in 1982 with The Jam and Style Council’s Our Favourite Shop that same decade.
In 1995, he hit No1 with Stanley Road. More followed with Illumination in 2002 and 22 Dreams in 2008.
In the teens, he scored another top spot with 11th solo album Sonik Kicks.
Only Paul McCartney and John Lennon have achieved the same feat.
