Bay Islands, Honduras

-

TUCKED into the south-west corner of the Caribbean, about 30 miles north of Honduras, the Bay Islands feature outstanding natural reef systems and an abundance of wildlife.

Part of the second-largest barrier reef in the world, the Mesoamerican, the islands of Roatan and Utila are surrounded by vibrant coral, multi-coloured fish, turtles, rays and sponges as big as fridges.

On Roatan, there are ziplines and canopy tour adventures, as well as sea kayaking, glass-bottom boat tours, windsurfing, jet-skiing and kite- boarding. You can also explore the island by horseback, visit Arch’s Iguana Farm or hang out at West End Village, with its happy hours, live bands and restaurant specials. ¢ Anthony’s Key Resort A village of bungalows amid lush palms, this all-inclusive resort provides luxury in the unspoiled landscapes of Roatan. The only high-rises here are towering coconut palms. Even non-divers and snorkellers can swim nose to bottlenose with the pod of dolphins that play in the natural lagoons. From £108 per night.
