Aface TO BE BACK AT WARRIORS

-

RICHIE GRAY launched the countdown to his Glasgow comeback – and insisted he never fell out of love with the club.

The Scotland giant quit the Warriors eight years ago for a spell with big-spending Sale Sharks.

And after starring stints in France for Castres and Toulouse he is champing at the bit to return to action for his hometown team – against arch-rivals Edinburgh.

The sides clash twice in quick succession next month at Murrayfield when Pro14 hostilities resume in the wake of the Covid-enforced cessation.

Gray said: “I would love to be part of the Edinburgh matches – it would be the best possible way to get back into the swing of things here.

“I’d definitely say I’m a more-rounded player than I was when I left in 2012.

“I just can’t wait to pull that Glasgow shirt on again. I never stopped following the club closely

BY RODDY DUNCAN and I have tracked how well they have done.

“I have been incredibly proud of everything they’ve achieved both domestically and in Europe. I wanted to be part of that set-up again and now I am!”

Gray admitted he has instantly settled back in the city, and said: “It helps when you know the area. I grew up here, so coming back and seeing family and friends has been great.

“There’s obviously been a lot of changes at the club but there are still a few familiar faces – guys such as Rob Harley, Ryan Wilson, Pete Horne and Chris Fusaro.”

New Warriors boss Danny Wilson will expect Gray to set an example to the younger locks in the squad.

And the player himself reckons his recent experience with Toulouse has been invaluable. He said: “I became one of the more senior guys there.

“Like at Glasgow, there had been a massive influx of younger boys coming through. There’s such a talented group of secondrowers and l will do everything I can to help their development.”
