Wimbledon hands out cash gifts

WIMBLEDON will hand out £10million in prize money for a Championship that wasn’t played.

Andy Murray is among 256 main-draw qualifiers who will receive £25,000 each despite not hitting a ball in SW19 this summer.

And up to 620 players will benefit from the All England Club’s pandemic insurance cover.

Chief executive Richard Lewis said: “Our insurance policy has allowed us to recognise the impact of the cancellation on the players.

“We are in a position to offer this payment as a reward for the hard work they have invested in building their ranking.”
