LA LIGA SILVA LINING FOR 10-MAN LEGANES

EURO ROUND-UP

-

TEN-MAN Leganes lived to fight another day in La Liga, riding their luck in a 1-0 victory at home to Valencia.

Defeat yesterday would have relegated the Madrid minnows who watched their opponents squander a second-half penalty.

Ruben Perez put the home side in front in 18 minutes from the spot, the midfielder’s first goal since 2013. But Leganes suffered a setback when Jonathan Silva was shown a straight red in 54 minutes.

Valencia earned a penalty soon after but captain Dani Parejo was denied by keeper Ivan Cuellar and

Leganes clung on to record a first home win since February.

In Italy, Verona full-back Davide Faraoni scored one of the best Serie A goals of the season before his side conceded in the sixth minute of stoppage time in a 1-1 draw at Fiorentina.

Faraoni, with his back to goal, swivelled and waited for the ball to drop before volleying past Bartlomiej Dragowski but Patrick Cutrone saved the hosts late on.

At Parma the hosts scored twice in stoppage time to force a 2-2 draw with Bologna.

Bologna raced to a 2-0 lead in 16 minutes but Jasmin Kurtic headed home in the 93rd minute before Roberto Inglese levelled.
