HENDRY OFF TO BELGIUM

Celts stopper to land loan move

- BY SCOTT BURNS

JACK HENDRY is set to sign a one-year loan deal with Belgian side KV Oostende today. Record Sport broke the story last month that the Jupiler Pro League side were keen on snapping up the Celtic defender. Scotland cap, Hendry, left, jetted out to Belgium yesterday for his medical and is expected to complete his move this afternoon.

The 25-year-old is looking to get his career back up and running after

FROM BACK PAGE his loan last season at Melbourne City was wrecked by injury.

Hendry suffered a serious knee injury that required surgery in only his second appearance in the A-League and scuppered his chances of making any sort of impression during his spell Down Under.

After a tough stint of rehab the young defender is now finally back to full fitness again.

Despite now being able to return to action Hendry knows his Parkhead future is far from being a bright one.

He was back training with the Celtic squad before Neil Lennon took them off to England to work out more fully at Loughborough University’s state-of-theart campus.

Hendry was signed from Dundee by Brendan Rodgers for £1million but since Lennon has come in as boss he has been on the fringes.

The defender is hoping his exposure in the Jupiler Pro League will help to get his promising career back on the rise and is relishing the prospect of playing first-team football again after a frustrating spell in the doldrums.

KV’s owners, Pacific Media Group, are also the company in charge of English Championship strugglers Barnsley.

Part of the group’s footballing philosophy is to pick up young players and seek to develop them.

The promising Hendry had other options in Scotland but he made it clear that he would prefer to have another crack at playing overseas.
